April 5 – D is for DEPRESSED - #atozchallenge

April 5 – D is for DEPRESSED - #atozchallenge

We all get depressed from time to time. That terrible feeling of hopelessness when nothing goes right and you’re afraid it never will again. For some it becomes a serious medical issue for which they have to seek help. My bouts of depression have always stopped short of the unmanageable and for that I’m grateful. But getting myself back on track is not so easy.

I have to remind myself of everything I’m grateful for—my wonderful daughter, my other family members, my beautiful kitties, good friends, a nice home, and reasonably good health. The hard part is accepting the loss of my husband who passed last October. I miss him so much, but watching him gradually fade away was even worse.

I thought the author of this poem was unknown, but the version I found on the ‘Net shows the name Betty Miller. I don’t know if she wrote it or merely submitted it to the site where I found it. Some people say it helps them get over the loss. It just makes me cry.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go.

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in gloom-filled rooms,
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little–but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me–but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And busy your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me – but let me go.

Betty Miller
